Karachi (Staff Reporter): A heartfelt condolence meeting for renowned actor and playwright Sohail Munawar was held at the District Central Arts Council, Karachi. The event brought together artists, writers, and admirers to honor the life and legacy of a man who left a lasting mark on Pakistan’s cultural and literary scene.
Remembering a Life of Art and Integrity
Regional Director Arts Council Bashir Saduzai expressed his deep respect for Sohail Munawar, recalling his dedication to art and culture. “Some of my friends are still in this world, while some have departed — one of them is Sohail Bhai. He was our companion from student days and a passionate contributor to literature and culture. It is our responsibility to remember him even after his passing,” he said.
He also remembered organizing a grand celebration in honor of Sohail’s achievements during his lifetime, calling it “a wonderful and memorable event that celebrated his success and humility.”
Friends Reflect on His Journey
Shahid Mohiuddin, Coordinator of the Arts Council Karachi District Central, shared fond memories of their long friendship. “I have known Sohail Bhai since our student days. He was like a younger brother to me. Our lives were filled with love, sincerity, and simplicity. Personalities like him are rare today,” he said with emotion.
Senior journalist and broadcaster Syed Hameed Afsar Ashrafi described Sohail Munawar as a man whose memory continues to live on. “When our loved ones leave this world, they remain alive in our hearts. Sohail was not only an actor, writer, and singer he was also a deeply spiritual and sensitive person. Every conversation with him revealed his kindness and depth,” he said.
Honoring His Legacy and Simplicity
Dr. Shabbir Arain recalled that just months earlier, they were celebrating Sohail’s life at a recognition ceremony in the same auditorium. “We did not know that Sohail would leave us so soon. Today, we sit in the same place, remembering his simplicity and contribution to the arts.”
Educationist Sabir Hussain Sabir shared that, according to Sohail’s wishes, he was laid to rest in a cemetery near a government school in Shafiq Colony, where he once taught. “His final days were peaceful. We often sat together in Mehdi Hassan Park and offered prayers before parting. His humility stayed with him until the end,” he added.
A Son’s Gratitude
Sohail’s son, Saad Sohail, expressed his heartfelt thanks to President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah, Resident Director Bashir Saduzai, Coordinator Shahid Mohiuddin, Sabir Hussain Sabir, and others for organizing both the recognition and condolence ceremonies. “I am deeply grateful to everyone who remembered my father with such love and respect,” he said.
Celebrating a Lasting Artistic Impact
The event concluded with screenings of plays and film highlights showcasing the artistic journey of Sohail Munawar. Among those who shared their memories and condolences were Yaqub Ghaznavi, Khursheed Ahmed, Uzair Ahmed Madani, Baqir Zaidi (Germany), Fawzia Aziz, Syed Nabi Ahmed Rizvi, Anwar Hussain, and Ahmed Javed.
