PCB Forges Groundbreaking Partnership to Elevate Women’s Cricket in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a significant stride towards fostering women’s cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has inked a pivotal agreement with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University in Peshawar. Spearheaded by PCB Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf, this strategic collaboration signifies a dedicated effort to cultivate women cricketers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and propel the growth of cricket in the region.

Zaka Ashraf, the driving force behind this initiative, stated, “PCB takes initiative to develop women cricketers in KP and get the talent. I am encouraging cricket in KP and spread it across the province to give opportunities to women in the region.”

This groundbreaking move aims to broaden the footprint of cricket throughout the province, presenting enriched opportunities for women in KP to excel in the sport. The collaborative agreement involves the leasing of the cricket ground at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University, Peshawar, to the PCB, paving the way for the establishment of a dedicated cricket academy focused on advancing women’s cricket.

The overarching goal of this partnership is to offer state-of-the-art facilities and services to aspiring female cricketers, facilitating seamless access from the university’s hostel facilities to the cricket ground in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Head of Women’s Cricket, Tania Mallick, expressed enthusiasm about the venture, stating, “This exciting partnership with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University, Peshawar, is in line with the PCB’s vision of fostering the growth of women’s cricket. The academy will serve as a centre for skill development as we are committed to seeing women’s cricket thrive in the region.”

The collaboration was met with approval from Professor Dr Safia Ahmed, the Vice-Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, who welcomed the initiative and expressed hope for collaborative efforts with the PCB to enhance women’s cricket.

As the PCB takes proactive steps to harness and nurture talent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, this partnership underscores a shared commitment to empowering women in the region through the avenue of cricket, marking a pivotal moment in the development of women’s sports in Pakistan.
