TN Media News | Riyadh:
HALO Space, a global leader in near-space tourism, has announced the launch of its final assembly and testing facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This significant development was unveiled during an exclusive media event in Riyadh and marks a major milestone in the Kingdom’s ambition to become a pioneer in space tourism.
Strengthening Saudi Arabia’s Role in Near-Space Innovation
Carlos Mira, CEO of HALO Space, confirmed that the new facility will handle the final assembly of space capsules and conduct critical system testing. The development is a core part of HALO’s plan to establish Saudi Arabia as a global hub for near-space travel.
“Our decision to localize operations, including a spaceport and immersive dome, reflects Saudi Arabia’s ideal conditions for near-space activities,” said Mira.
The company also revealed plans for an immersive experience dome, simulating the HALO Stratospheric journey. These facilities are expected to significantly boost tourism and public engagement with space science.
Aurora Capsule Test Flight Scheduled for September:
HALO Space’s Aurora prototype capsule is set for a crucial 30-kilometer altitude test in late September 2024. This unmanned mission will validate the capsule’s integrated systems and represents a major step toward commercial near-space flights by 2026.
The capsule has been under development for three years and incorporates advanced technologies designed to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
Aligned with Vision 2030 Goals:
Thomas Kuruvilla, Managing Partner at Arthur D. Little, emphasized the broader economic and strategic impact of HALO’s investment.
“This initiative aligns perfectly with Vision 2030’s goals to create a thriving, diversified economy,” said Kuruvilla. “HALO’s presence will create high-value jobs and new business opportunities in tourism and the space sector.”
Toward a Future of Near-Space Tourism:
The newly announced facilities will support Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a leader in technological innovation and economic diversification. Visitors will soon be able to engage in near-space tourism experiences within a futuristic, immersive environment.
With commercial operations set to begin in 2026, HALO Space aims to offer thousands of passengers the chance to experience near-space travel by 2030. This initiative not only enhances the Kingdom’s innovation footprint but also contributes to the growth of high-tech tourism.
