OIC Event Highlights Urgent Need to Address Human Rights Violations in IIOJK.

Jeddah-The Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, organized a special event and a photo exhibition today at the OIC Secretariat to commemorate the Kashmir Solidarity Day and highlight the gross human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to the press statement from Syed Hamza Saleem Gilani, Press consular at Pakistan Consulate General Jeddah, OIC Secretary General, H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha, participated as the Chief Guest. The senior leadership of the OIC Secretariat including the Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Jammu and Kashmir, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine/Al-Quds Affairs, Assistant Secretary-General for Science and Technology and Permanent Representatives of OIC Missions along with representatives from Saudi and Pakistani media outlets were present at the event.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to OIC, Ambassador Syed Mohammad Fawad Sher, briefed the audience about the atrocities being perpetrated by Indian occupation forces and the magnitude of the humanitarian crisis in IIOJK. Condemning India’s unilateral and illegal actions of 5th August 2019, PR emphasized that the OIC should take concrete actions for the realization of the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people as per the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.

He exhorted the Secretary-General to appoint a panel of international eminent personalities to explore legal, political and diplomatic avenues for a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Expressing solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the Secretary-General of OIC, Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha reiterated OIC’s rejection of India’s illegal and unilateral actions since August 5, 2019, aimed at altering the demographic composition of the occupied territory.

He highlighted that the OIC has persistently called India out for its egregious human rights violations in the IIOJK and expressed the urgent need for the resolution of the J&K dispute. He assured us to take all possible measures for the resolution of the dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and OIC declarations.

In his remarks, Assistant Secretary-General and Special Envoy on Jammu & Kashmir, Mr. Yousef Al Dobeiye referred to his recent visit to the Line of Control and the stories of the plight of the victims of Indian forces. He reassured OIC’s firm support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir for the realization of their dreams.

Consul General Khalid Majid thanked the OIC for its consistent support for the Kashmiri people and expressed the hope that OIC will take concrete measures to stop human rights violations in IIOJK.

Chairman Kashmir Committee Jeddah, Mr. Masood Puri, in his remarks, highlighted the plight of Kashmiri people and urged the Secretary-General to redouble OIC’s efforts for the just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Today’s event is yet another manifestation of OIC’s unequivocal support for the cause of the Kashmiri people and its commitment to the realization of their right to self-determination.
