It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Yaqoob, a distinguished pioneer of the British Halal industry.

Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Yaqoob, the visionary founder of the Halal meat industry in the United Kingdom, passed away on the 17th of August, 2024. Since his arrival in the UK in 1954, he embarked on an extraordinary journey, establishing one of the nation’s first halal food businesses from the ground up. His remarkable efforts not only created a thriving enterprise but also generated thousands of jobs, leaving an indelible mark on the British economy and the Muslim community.

Born on the 17th of December, 1933, in India, Sheikh Yaqoob initially came to the United Kingdom to pursue a medical degree. During these formative years, he laid the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of the Halal industry. His legacy, however, extends far beyond business. As a philanthropist, he established numerous non-profit institutions, founded mosques, and led various community service initiatives, contributing immeasurably to society.

Throughout his distinguished life, Sheikh Yaqoob received numerous global lifetime achievement awards, alongside accolades from within his industry. He leaves behind a loving family: his wife, two sons, two daughters, and thirteen grandchildren.

We extend our deepest gratitude for his immense contributions to the British Muslim community. His pioneering spirit and unwavering dedication will be cherished for generations to come. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
