On 20th July 2022, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa inaugurated the state-of-the-art Tunneling Institute of Pakistan (TIP) which is an initiative of Frontier Works Organization (FWO). Tunnelling Institute of Pakistan will encourage professional tunnelling expertise and contribution to (R&D) research and development will be focused. Via industry experts and tunnelling academia, tunnelling education (engineering) will be promoted through the Tunneling Institute of Pakistan which is a distinctive platform for such academia.
TIP is the first Tunneling Institute in Pakistan. According to some sources, it is the sixth such facility in the World. Tunnelling Institute of Pakistan (TIP) has been completed and operationalized within the planned time frame of 10 months by FWO.
Advantages of Tunneling Institute
This institute will enable Pakistan to gain expertise in tunnelling. Institute will explore professional engineers who will work for both military and civil purposes. This institute will be beneficial as local professional workers will be hired for development projects and jobs will be created. As well as tunnels are very important for the military in order to store ammunition and other military equipment. Also, tunnels provide a safe passage for military movement in case of war.
It is only the sixth such facility in the world which has been completed and operationalized within a planned time frame of 10 months by the FWO.
It will provide a platform to encompass tunnelling education through both tunnelling academia and industry experts.
