In the National T20 Cup match between Karachi Whites and Lahore Blues at the National Stadium in Karachi on Sunday, national cricketer Azam Khan found himself facing consequences for expressing his support for Palestine.
During the game, Azam affixed a sticker featuring the Palestinian flag onto his bat. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took action against this act, imposing a 50% match fee penalty on Azam.
Despite the umpire’s disapproval, Azam refused to remove the Palestinian flag sticker, leading to the imposed penalty. Additionally, Azam has received a warning for future matches.
If he persists in placing a sticker in the next match, suspension could be a potential consequence, reflecting the ongoing tension between personal expressions of solidarity and the regulations governing professional sports.
