Gilgit-Baltistan Government Forges Path to Sustainable Energy with NPAK Partnership”
In a significant move to bolster the energy sector, the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has taken strides to collaborate with private sector investors, placing a special focus on the development of new electric power projects in the region.
With a commitment to addressing the energy needs of residents, particularly in the Central Hunza area, and fostering economic growth, the government has granted a concession to NPAK Energy Limited, a subsidiary of the Company of Industrial Promotion Services.
This concession encompasses the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity within the designated Concession Area. The initial phase involves the construction of solar and hydropower plants, aiming to provide long-term, reliable, and affordable energy.
Upon the successful completion of the pilot phase, plans include the expansion of renewable energy generation capacity to cater to the electricity demand not only in Hunza but also in other districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The first milestone in this endeavor is the commissioning of a 1MW solar plant, marking the initiation of the first Public Private Partnership Project. Set to commence operations in November 2023, this solar plant represents a crucial step towards sustainable energy solutions.
Looking ahead, phase II of the project involves the installation and commissioning of a 2MW solar plant in 2024, further solidifying the commitment to a greener and more energy-efficient future for the region.
