Sri Lanka has announced to issue free tourist visas to citizens of seven countries including India. According to Hindustan Times, Sri Lanka’s Immigration Department has decided to issue free visas to develop the country’s tourism sector.
In October, the Sri Lankan cabinet decided to issue free tourist visas to citizens of India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand.
According to the Immigration Department of Sri Lanka, the process of issuing tourist visas on a free trial basis started from 31st March 2024 for 30 days.
Tourists will be allowed to stay in Sri Lanka for up to 30 days on a free visa. It should be noted that the number of Indian tourists who went to Sri Lanka in October was 28 thousand while the number of Russian tourists who went to Sri Lanka last month was about 10 thousand.
Tourism in Sri Lanka was hit hard when the Easter bombings in 2019 killed 270 people, including 11 Indians.
