76 Years Since Historic UN Resolution:

On January 5, 2025, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) General Secretariat commemorated the 76th anniversary of the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) resolution, passed on the same date in 1949. The historic resolution had called for a free and impartial plebiscite to enable the Kashmiri people to determine their political future under UN supervision.

OIC Reaffirms Support for Kashmir:

In an official statement, the OIC General Secretariat reaffirmed its strong support for the inalienable right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people. The organization stressed that the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions continue to define the international legal status of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

A peaceful resolution must be reached in accordance with UNSC resolutions, the statement emphasized.

Appeal to the International Community:

The OIC also urged the global community to play a more active role in ensuring the implementation of UN resolutions. It highlighted the unresolved nature of the Kashmir conflict and stressed the importance of sustained international engagement to reach a just and lasting solution.

A Call for Justice and Peace:

The OIC reiterated that any future settlement must respect the will and aspirations of the Kashmiri people and align with international law and principles of justice.

As the 76th anniversary of the UNCIP resolution is observed, the OIC remains steadfast in its advocacy for a peaceful settlement to one of the longest-standing disputes in modern history.
