Former captain Shahid Afridi has got the opportunity to work in a major position in PCB for the first time.
PCB has appointed Shahid Afridi as the interim head of the national selection committee for the New Zealand team’s tour of Pakistan. Kiwis are visiting Pakistan for the first time in 19 years.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former captain Shahid Afridi as the interim head of the national selection committee for the home series against New Zealand. According to a statement issued by the PCB, this decision was taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s management committee during a meeting chaired by Najam Sethi on Saturday.
According to the statement, Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum will also be part of the committee set up for the tour of New Zealand only, while Haroon Rasheed, a member of the board’s management committee, will serve as the convener.
The New Zealand team will play two Tests and three ODIs against the hosts on their first tour of Pakistan in 19 years. The Kiwi team arrived in Pakistan on Thursday and will play their first Test at the National Stadium on Monday. His arrival has come at a time when the English cricket team visiting Pakistan recently whitewashed the host team after twenty years.
Najam Sethi says that he has full confidence in Shahid Afridi’s abilities. Speaking to DW, Sethi said, “Despite his busy schedule, Shahid Afridi accepted the membership of PCB’s management committee on my request. Now he has been entrusted with this important responsibility, which he has accepted and I think he is capable of delivering excellent results.
Expressing his full confidence in the newly formed committee, Sethi added, “I have no doubt that despite the limited time, they will take bold and courageous decisions, giving us a strong and strong team in the series against New Zealand. It will help build a competitive team.”
