Imad Wasim sees impact potential in Abrar Ahmed, akin to Fakhar Zaman

by: Atika Mehboob TN Sport Pakistan:
All-rounder Imad Wasim is confident that mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed, currently a traveling reserve with the Pakistan squad, has the potential to make an impact similar to Fakhar Zaman if given the opportunity in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.

Abrar can only secure a place in the World Cup squad as a replacement for an injured player. Reports in the media had suggested that Abrar might be called up to replace Shadab, who suffered a concussion during a match against South Africa, forcing him to miss a critical encounter against New Zealand in Bengaluru.

However, the PCB anticipates that Shadab will be fit and available for Pakistan’s last group match against England in Kolkata. Former left-arm pacer, Mohammad Amir, emphasized that the team management holds the key to such decisions.

“While there was an opportunity to include Abrar Ahmed [in the squad], Shadab informed us that he is fit and ready for the next match. [Hardik] Pandya was also unfit and withdrew from the tournament voluntarily, allowing India to include a fit player in his place. So, there was a chance to include Abrar, but only the team management can provide insight into their thought process,” Amir stated during an interview on a local TV channel.

Imad Wasim, on the other hand, highlighted the potential impact of players like Abrar, drawing a parallel to the game-changing influence Fakhar Zaman had in a match against New Zealand.

“For some time now, we’ve been saying that Fakhar Zaman is an impact player. Similarly, when Abrar gets the chance to play, he will make an impact as well,” Imad confidently stated.
