Karachi (Staff Reporter): New Karachi has become a stronghold for thieves and dacoits, with a sharp increase in mobile phone snatching, wallet theft, and motorcycle lifting. Residents of the area have expressed growing frustration and fear as lawlessness escalates despite the presence of multiple police stations.
Local citizens report being routinely deprived of their valuables, including cash, mobile phones, and motorcycles, within the jurisdiction of New Karachi Police Station No. 1, Bilal Colony Police Station Sector 5E, and Ajmer Nagri Police Station. Residents lament the lack of effective action from the police, accusing them of failing to provide the security they are entrusted to uphold.
“The police are supposed to be our protectors, yet security in New Karachi is virtually non-existent,” a resident said, highlighting the sense of helplessness in the community.
The citizens have appealed to senior law enforcement officials, including IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, DIG Central, SSP Central, and DSP Central, to take urgent action. They are demanding targeted operations to apprehend bike thieves and other criminals who are operating with impunity.
Despite the Sindh Police’s imposition of a strict ban on the buying and selling of stolen bike parts, motorcycle lifters continue to operate freely, leaving residents questioning the effectiveness of enforcement measures.
Criticism has also been directed at the three police stations operating in New Karachi—New Karachi Police Station No. 1, Bilal Colony Police Station, and Ajmer Nagri Police Station. Citizens have accused the police of incompetence and negligence, calling for a review of their performance.
Residents have urged the authorities to increase patrolling, enforce stricter measures against criminal activity, and ensure the safety of the community. Until decisive action is taken, New Karachi remains a hotbed of crime, leaving its residents vulnerable and anxious.
