On the opening day, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat, encountering early challenges but ultimately posting a respectable total. The initial session featured disciplined bowling from PM’s XI, leading to the dismissal of opener Imam-ul-Haq, who managed only 9 runs off 24 deliveries in an over bowled by Jordan Buckingham.
Pakistan, initially at 28/1 in 14 overs, gradually gained momentum, reaching the 50-run mark in 18.4 overs. At lunch, they stood at 91/2 in 28 overs, with Shan Masood holding strong at 39. The team continued to build their innings, crossing the 100-run mark in 32.1 overs.
Shan Masood, the Test skipper, showcased leadership with a well-deserved half-century, scoring 50 off 79 balls. The second session saw resilience from Pakistani batsmen, reaching 130/2 in 43 overs during the drinks break, with Shan at 62 and Babar Azam at 18.
At tea break, Pakistan stood at 181/3 in 56 overs, with Shan reaching 81 and Saud Shakeel at 8. The team surpassed 200 runs in the 63rd over. Shan Masood’s standout performance defined the day as he reached a splendid century in 169 balls.
The momentum shifted when Saud Shakeel was bowled by Todd Murphy at 13. At the drinks break, Pakistan was at 247/4 in 74.0 overs, with Shan standing tall at 121. Sarfaraz Ahmed, the new batsman, provided valuable support, scoring 17 runs.
The last session witnessed a dramatic turn as Sarfaraz, after contributing 41 off 46 balls, was dismissed by Jordan Buckingham. The day concluded with Pakistan at 324/6, with Shan at 156 off 235 balls. Faheem Ashraf was dismissed at the last ball, but Pakistan overcame early setbacks, setting the stage for an intriguing second day.
Pakistan aims to consolidate their position and build on their first-innings total, capitalizing on the solid foundation laid on day one. The opposition, on the other hand, will strive to make breakthroughs and restrict Pakistan from posting a large score.
