Bangladesh Crush Malaysia, Set Up Semifinal Clash with India

Bangladesh delivered a spectacular performance in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, thrashing Malaysia by 114 runs to set up a tantalizing clash with India on July 26.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted an imposing 191/2 in their 20 overs, thanks to a brilliant 80 off 59 balls from Murshida Khatun and a captain’s knock of 62 not out from Nigar Sultana. The Malaysian bowlers struggled against the onslaught, with only Elsa Hunter and Mahirah Izzati Ismail managing to take a wicket each.

Chasing a mammoth target of 192, Malaysia never found their footing, struggling against a disciplined Bangladeshi bowling attack. Nahida Akter (2/13) and Rabeya Khan (1/10) were the pick of the bowlers, making it difficult for the Malaysian batswomen to build any momentum.

Malaysia’s top scorer, Elsa Hunter, managed just 20 runs, while the rest of the batting lineup faltered, managing only 77/8 in their 20 overs. Bangladesh’s all-round display of dominant batting and precise bowling sets the stage for an exciting semifinal against India.

This dominant win not only highlights Bangladesh’s formidable form in the tournament but also sets up an eagerly anticipated semifinal showdown with arch-rivals India.
