Consul General in Lahore Zhao Shiren attended the unveiling ceremony of “China Bookshelf”

On December 13, 2022, Consul General Zhao shiren attended the opening ceremony of the “China Bookshelf” at the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Chief Financial Officer Wang Bo and Deputy CEO Ma Desheng of Pakistan Matiari-Lahore Transmission Company (Private)Limited were present.

Under the witness of Consul General Zhao Shiren, Pakistan Matiari-Lahore Transmission Company signed a memorandum of cooperation with the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. Both parties took the opportunity to the establishment of “China Bookshelf” to further deepen the cooperative relationship in disciplines, training base construction and graduates’ employment and recruitment, making new efforts to promote the cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Pakistan.

Consul General Zhao Shiren congratulated on the unveiling of the “China Bookshelf” at the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, saying that the establishment of the bookshelf will enhance the understanding of the Chinese language and Chinese culture among Pakistani students and people, promote the cultural exchanges between China and Pakistan and the development of China-Pakistan friendly relations. Next year will be the Year of China-Pakistan Tourism Exchange, and China and Pakistan will hold a series of activities, He hoped that the “China Bookshelf” will continue to make positive contributions to the friendship between the two people.

Chief Financial Officer Wang Bo gave an introduction of the investment, construction and operation of Pakistan Matiari-Lahore Transmission Company’s HVDC power transmission project, saying that the project is the only power grid project in the energy cooperation agreement of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. It builds the North-South energy transmission artery for Pakistan, and also cultivates the first batch of local HVDC technology and operation and maintenance talents. Pakistan Matiari-Lahore Transmission Company appreciated the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore for its talent support for the project.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Syed Mansoor emphasized that the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore is promoting Pakistan-China cultural exchanges, saying that the university and the Confucius Institute have jointly set up the Chinese Cultural Exchange Center and offered Chinese language courses to all students. We look forward to strengthening cooperation with Pakistan Matiari-Lahore Transmission Company to deliver more local talent for the construction of CPEC.

The “China Bookshelf” was initiated by Pakistan Matiari-Lahore Transmission Company (Private) Limited. They donated books that cover a variety of subjects, including Chinese culture, history, Chinese language learning and engineering technology, all in both Chinese and English language. It will be convenient for the teachers and students to read and learn a lot from the literature.
