In a thrilling match held in Doha, Kuwait’s cricket team secured a narrow victory over the Qatari national team, winning by a razor-thin margin of 130-129. This significant triumph has granted Kuwait a coveted spot in the 2024 Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States. Remarkably, this marks Kuwait’s third consecutive victory in the qualifying rounds.
Kuwait will now feature in Regional finals slated to be held in November. 2 teams from the Asian region will make it to the 20-nation T20 tournament fixed to be played in the West Indies and the USA in June next year.
Although Saudi Arabia finished the tournament with the same point as Kuwait, the latter’s Net Run Rate aided their voyage to the Regional qualifiers Saudi Arabia. The Maldives went home with no wins in their kitty as the team 6 out of 6 matches. The host country Qatar could only make it as far as third position with 2 wins to show next to their name.
Kuwait will play against teams like Bahrain, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates in Group B in the next stage of qualifiers.
