Thirty-six years later, Lionel Messi, the captain who made Argentina the champion of the World Cup, has reconsidered his decision to retire. After the victory against France in the final match of the World Cup, Messi spoke to the local TV of Argentina and said that he wants to play more matches wearing the jersey of Argentina as the world champion.
Messi said that he is a lucky player who has every title in his career but not just the football world cup but now after adding this title he wants to celebrate this happiness with everyone. The world-renowned player, who is 35 years old, scored two spectacular goals in Sunday’s World Cup final against France to take his tally to 98 goals for Argentina.

The match was decided on a penalty shootout after Argentina and France were tied with three goals each in regular and extra time. The French could only put the ball into the net twice compared to Argentina’s four.
After this win, the World Cup title has also been added to Messi’s illustrious career. Messi said that it is a great way to end a career in this way, but he also has Copa America and World Cup events ahead of him.
The Argentina captain further said that he loves football and is very happy to be a part of the national team. Before the football World Cup played in Qatar, Messi had said that this would be the last World Cup of his career, but he has now changed his decision.
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni also commented on Messi’s decision, saying, “We have to keep Messi until the 2026 World Cup. If he wants to play more, he will be with us.” Scalloni hoped that Lionel Messi would be part of the Argentina team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
