Abu Dhabi, UAE: Kuwait’s Al-Qurain basketball team triumphed in the first Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy GCC Basketball Cup for Ladies, defeating Qatar’s Al-Gharafa 71-55 in the final. The event, held at the Academy’s new headquarters in Abu Dhabi, was organized under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak and led by Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza praised the success of the tournament, which aimed to support and promote women’s sports across the GCC. Oman’s Salalah team secured third place with a 52-39 win over the host academy team.
The tournament drew strong media and public attention and was commended by officials for fostering talent and regional cooperation. Board members and delegation heads expressed pride in the athletes’ performances and the competitive spirit of the event. The successful inaugural edition sets a promising precedent for future women’s basketball tournaments in the Gulf.
