Culture Meets Innovation in Uzbekistan
Culture and innovation came together in Uzbekistan as ACWA Power supported the AlMusalla Prize at the Bukhara Biennial. The prize, launched by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, celebrates the design of a musalla — a sacred space for prayer and reflection present across Islamic traditions.
By backing this initiative, ACWA Power demonstrates its commitment to more than energy and infrastructure. The company is also investing in cultural exchange, creativity, and heritage preservation, making an impact that extends well beyond power generation.
ACWA Power AlMusalla Prize: A Cultural Bridge
The Bukhara Biennial offers an international stage where architecture, culture, and community connect. ACWA Power’s support for the AlMusalla Prize reflects its belief in the unifying power of shared understanding.
Mohammad Abunayyan, Founder and Chairman of ACWA Power, explained:
“ACWA Power has always seen itself as more than an energy company. We are a partner in shaping a shared future rooted in creativity and innovation. Supporting the Bukhara Biennial highlights our commitment to heritage, culture, and lasting dialogue between nations.”
A Sustainable and Award-Winning Design
The prize-winning project, titled “On Weaving”, was designed by EAST Architecture with AKT II and artist Rayyane Tabet. Built almost entirely from palm tree waste, the modular musalla can be disassembled and reassembled, offering both sustainability and flexibility.
This design was first introduced at the Islamic Arts Biennale in Jeddah in 2025, later shown at the Venice Biennale, and is now displayed in Bukhara. Its journey represents renewed cultural connections between Islamic societies, linking Bukhara’s heritage of knowledge and openness with Jeddah’s role as a gateway for pilgrims.

Supporting Uzbekistan’s Growth Beyond Energy
Uzbekistan is the largest market in ACWA Power’s global portfolio outside Saudi Arabia. The company has invested heavily in both energy projects and social initiatives.
One key initiative is Shirin College, where ACWA Power provides world-class training programs. Hundreds of students graduate each year, contributing to the country’s ambitious development goals.
Abunayyan added:
“We are proud to play a role in Uzbekistan’s vision for growth and leadership in energy transition. Our mission is rooted in strong cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
Building Lasting Connections
The ACWA Power AlMusalla Prize not only showcases innovative architecture but also strengthens cultural bonds. Through its sponsorship, ACWA Power highlights how business, creativity, and heritage can unite communities across borders.
