In a surprising turn of events, Pakistan’s Chief Selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq, secured a visa to travel with the national team to India ahead of their first match in the ICC World Cup 2023, making an early arrival in Hyderabad.
Inzamam didn’t merely tag along; he actively engaged in advising and guiding the players during their practice sessions. While insiders have revealed that the involvement of Inzamam was met with mixed reactions from the foreign coaches, it seems that any concerns are being discreetly managed for the overall benefit of the team.
During the initial two matches, Inzamam played a significant role in the selection of the playing XI. Having recently returned to Lahore, he is expected to continue his advisory role remotely, providing valuable insights and guidance to the team.
Sources have disclosed that Inzamam expressed a desire to accompany the team to India, a wish that was granted by Zaka Ashraf. It’s not unusual for there to be some discomfort among foreign coaches regarding his active presence. Typically, the touring selection committee is responsible for choosing the playing XI on an away tour. However, Inzamam has made his opinions known, and this practice is anticipated to continue even after his return to Pakistan.
On the other hand, foreign coaches are reportedly feeling uncertain about their roles, given recent changes within the board, and their future will be determined after the World Cup concludes.
The current management has prioritized stability and continuity during this high-stakes mega event, recognizing the importance of maintaining a cohesive team environment for Pakistan’s World Cup campaign.
