ICC Suspends Sri Lanka Cricket Membership Over Government Interference

by: Atika Mehboob TN Sport Pakistan:
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has immediately suspended Sri Lanka Cricket’s membership due to government interference, as announced in a statement on Friday night. The ICC cited a breach of obligations by the SLC, specifically emphasizing the requirement for autonomous management free from government interference.

The statement from the ICC reads, “The conditions of the suspension will be decided by the ICC Board in due course.” The ICC Board is scheduled to convene on November 21, providing clarity on the future course of action.

Sri Lanka, slated to host the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in January and February 2024, faces uncertainty with this suspension.

The Sri Lanka men’s team had a challenging run in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, securing only two wins in nine matches and accumulating four points. Currently positioned at No.8 in the points table, they have three more matches to play in the league phase.
