Muhammad Nizam KARACHI: United Thunders’ captain, Javed Mansoor, played a stellar role in propelling his team to the next round of the AKG Premier League Season 2, scoring an impressive unbeaten century to defeat Friends United by seven wickets in their fifth-round fixture at the AKG Ground on Wednesday.
Mansoor’s superb knock of 100* guided United Thunders to chase down the target of 167, reaching 167/3 in just 18.4 overs. His innings included 10 fours and two sixes, coming off 97 balls. This century marked both his first and second of the tournament. Malik Ali also contributed with a composed 37* off 31 balls, including three boundaries.
Earlier, United Thunders’ bowlers restricted Friends United to a total of 166/7. Kamran Wali was the top scorer for Friends United, amassing 86 runs off 78 balls, including eight fours and three sixes. Suleman Huda added 25 runs off 20 balls, hitting two boundaries.
Rahil Sayani and Javed Mansoor both took two wickets each, while Hameed Sayani and Rahim Suleman chipped in with one wicket each. United Thunders secured their third victory out of five matches, bringing their points tally to 6, level with Friends United, who also have 6 points.
The match was officiated by umpires Muhammad Younis and Zahid Iqbal, with Ubaid Ahmed serving as the official scorer. Ashraf Ali, a senior AKG member, presented the Man of the Match award to Javed Mansoor for his match-winning 100* and two wickets, which helped United Thunders advance in the competition.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s fixture, Aziz Damani will face United Hurricanes at 1:30 PM in the fifth and final round match.
