Birmingham / Islamabad: Islamabad-born Pakistani student Adam Zaman has been elected President of Aston University Birmingham by an overwhelming majority, marking a significant milestone for a young Pakistani scholar pursuing higher education in the United Kingdom.
Adam Zaman, who arrived in the UK last September, is currently studying Business Intelligence. His campaign, launched in March under the slogan “Take Control of Your Future,” gained strong support from a diverse and international student body.
Aston University is home to approximately 18,000 students from across the globe, including France, India, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, China, Vietnam, and several African countries. In this multicultural academic environment, students placed their confidence in Adam Zaman’s leadership, recognizing his ability to represent and address the needs of an international community.
Speaking after his election, Adam Zaman acknowledged the practical, economic, and social challenges faced by international students in the UK. He emphasized that evolving global economic conditions are likely to impact graduates’ employability and future opportunities. He stated that his goal is to equip students with the tools and connections needed to navigate these challenges and to encourage them to contribute positively to the economic future of Britain, Europe, and the wider global community.
He also expressed his commitment to strengthening Pakistan-UK relations, promoting youth engagement, and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through practical and forward-looking initiatives.
Describing his victory as a team effort, Adam Zaman highlighted the support of his friend Danish, also from Pakistan, who has likewise been elected to a presidential role. Their joint success has been widely appreciated as a reflection of the growing presence and influence of Pakistani students in international academic and leadership platforms.
Observers view Adam Zaman’s achievement not only as a personal success but also as part of a broader trend of Pakistani-origin individuals contributing significantly to public life in the United Kingdom. From Members of Parliament and mayors to business leaders, academics, and community representatives, Pakistani-origin professionals continue to play an important role in British society. His election is seen as a continuation of this positive and evolving legacy.
Adam Zaman hails from a respected and educated family in Islamabad. His mother is a doctor, and his father is a well-known businessman. His achievement has been warmly welcomed as a matter of pride for Pakistan, particularly for young Pakistanis pursuing education and leadership opportunities abroad.
