ACWA Power Signs Strategic Agreements to Boost Indonesia’s Clean Energy Future

Partnerships aim to drive renewable energy, green hydrogen, and water desalination projects worth $10 billion

Saudi Arabia July 2025: ACWA Power, the world’s largest private water desalination company and a leader in energy transition, has signed two major agreements aimed at transforming Indonesia’s energy and water infrastructure.

ACWA Power and Danantara Indonesia Formalize Clean Energy Investment

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between ACWA Power and Badan Pengelola Investasi Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara Indonesia). The MoU outlines ACWA Power’s commitment to exploring investments in Indonesia, focusing on renewable energy, combined cycle gas turbines, green hydrogen, and water desalination.

The agreement marks a key milestone in Indonesia’s efforts to attract foreign investment and develop sustainable infrastructure. It will also help boost the country’s energy resilience and environmental goals.

Strategic Alliance with PT Pertamina

ACWA Power has also entered into a strategic partnership with PT Pertamina, Indonesia’s state-owned oil and gas enterprise. This collaboration will drive the joint development of multiple clean energy projects, including:

  • Up to 500MW of renewable energy and gas-to-power capacity

  • Green hydrogen production initiatives

  • New electricity tenders

  • Operation and maintenance (O&M) services in the power sector

This partnership is expected to inject up to USD 10 billion in project funding. These projects will significantly contribute to Indonesia’s national targets—achieving 34% renewables in the energy mix by 2034 and 87% by 2060.

Supporting Indonesia’s Green Transition

Raad Al-Saady, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of ACWA Power, emphasized the company’s commitment:

“ACWA Power is proud to deepen our presence in Indonesia’s power and water sector through these agreements. We are committed to supporting Indonesia’s long-term energy and water security goals.”

Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, CEO of Danantara, highlighted the broader strategic vision:

“This partnership brings capital and expertise to accelerate high-impact solar, hydrogen, and integrated water-energy projects. It reflects our mission to create sustainable growth and attract foreign investment while supporting national priorities.”

Simon Aloysius Mantiri, CEO of PT Pertamina, echoed this sentiment:

“Our partnership with ACWA Power supports our dual strategy ensuring energy security and accelerating the green transition. Together, we aim to lead the region in building a low-carbon economy.”

A Shared Commitment to Sustainability

These collaborations align with Indonesia’s long-term vision to become a clean energy leader in the Asia-Pacific region. They also signal ACWA Power’s expanding role in the global energy transition, particularly in emerging markets.

By combining local leadership with international expertise, these agreements are expected to deliver transformative benefits both economically and environmentally.
