Asharq Al-Awsat appoints Badr Al-Qahtani as Gulf Affairs Senior Editor.

London: Asharq Al-Awsat has announced the appointment of Saudi journalist Badr Alqahtani as the Gulf Affairs Senior Editor. He will be responsible for managing and developing the news coverage of the Gulf region and Yemen across various platforms at the newspaper’s headquarters in London.

Badr Alqahtani previously worked on the establishment and management of Asharq Al-Awsat’s podcast news service titled ‘Ijaz,’ meaning ‘brief’ in Arabic, as part of SRMG’s new strategy to offer digital media services.

In 2015, Alqahtani founded and managed ‘Alekhbariya Net’ with SBA. The new digital media outlet received positive feedback within the Saudi journalism scene as a high-quality professional project in cooperation with an official media channel.

Alqahtani’s career with Asharq Al-Awsat spans over 14 years. He began as a reporter in Jeddah, then Riyadh, before moving to London as editor of Saudi local news.

The work of the Saudi journalist stood out during the Yemeni crisis. He broke many news stories on the crisis, covered its political implications, conducted numerous interviews with stakeholders, and published in-depth reports and analyses.

As an expert on the Yemeni crisis, Alqahtani is a regular guest on various satellite TV channels, including Asharq, Al-Arabiya, BBC Arabic, and France 24. He has also spoken at several seminars held by think tanks such as Chatham House and the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, as well as Yemeni research institutes such as the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies and DeepRoot Consulting.
