MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian Open Swimming Cup kicked off in Brest on 30 June. Taking part in the event are Belarusian and Russian athletes, BelTA has learned.
The tournament gathered 330 swimmers from the two countries, including Russian medalists of the Olympic Games and world championships. Day One featured ten medal events. The Belarusian team won four final heats. Alina Zmushka became the best in the women’s 200m, Ivan Shamshurin won the men’s 200m butterfly while Alina Zhorakh – the women’s 200m race, Alesya Akinchyts was the first in women’s 1500m race.
Another six final heats were won by Russian representatives. The winners were Anton Chupkov (200m breaststroke), Viktoria Starostina (200m medley), Maria Kameneva (50m freestyle) and Ilya Shevchenko (50m freestyle). The Russian swimmers also won the 4x200m relay for men and the 4x100m relay for women.
