Former Indian opening batsman, Gautam Gambhir, has expressed his wish to witness India and Pakistan compete in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final, scheduled to take place in the USA and West Indies.
In a recent interview, Gambhir underscored the importance of celebrating success rather than finding joy in the misfortune of the opposing team. The cricketer, born in Delhi, voiced concern about the prevailing negative attitude among fans, where happiness is often derived from the pain of the rival team’s defeat.
“India and Pakistan will face each other in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and there is a chance they might qualify for the final. It shouldn’t be a situation where supporters in India celebrate if Pakistan loses, or vice versa,” remarked Gautam Gambhir.
Drawing attention to the impact of social media on fan behavior, the former cricketer urged supporters to find joy in their team’s success rather than deriving satisfaction from the failure of others.
“It is senseless to celebrate someone else’s defeat. When Pakistan loses, Indian fans enjoy it, and it is the same in Pakistan when India fails to win a contest. This is a negative attitude. It is time to change this mindset. People have started doing such things for the sake of social media. Find joy in your success and not in the pain of others,” he concluded.
It’s noteworthy that the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held from June 4 to 30 in the Caribbean and the USA, marking the first time that the USA will host an international cricket event. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the ICC team has inspected potential venues in the USA, including Lauderhill in Florida, Morrisville, Dallas, and New York.
