In a thrilling encounter, Multan Sultans secured a commanding victory over Lahore Qalandars in the seventh match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine, thanks to Mohammad Rizwan’s stellar innings and Iftikhar Ahmed’s fireworks in the death overs. Chasing a target of 167, Multan Sultans faced early setbacks as Dawid Malan and Reeza Hendricks departed early without contributing to the scoreboard. However, captain Mohammad Rizwan steadied the ship with a magnificent 82 off 59 balls.
After Rizwan’s dismissal, Iftikhar Ahmed took charge, smashing 24 runs in the 19th over to finish the chase with one over to spare. His unbeaten 34 off just 11 balls, including five boundaries and two sixes, sealed the victory for the Sultans. Earlier in the match, Lahore Qalandars posted a competitive total despite a shaky start. Sahibzada Farhan fell early, but Rassie van der Dussen’s composed half-century and Fakhar Zaman’s aggressive 41 set the stage for a challenging total.
However, the Qalandars’ middle order collapsed, with Mohammad Ali leading the bowling charge for Multan Sultans, picking up two crucial wickets. Abbas Afridi and Usama Mir also chipped in with a wicket each to restrict Lahore to 166/7 in their 20 overs.
With this win, Multan Sultans now have three victories in the competition, while Lahore Qalandars have suffered their third defeat. The Sultans will look to carry this momentum forward as they aim to solidify their position in the PSL standings.
