Afghanistan cricket team captain Hashmatullah Shahidi says that he is happy to defeat the Pakistan team in the World Cup and he has enjoyed this victory. In an interview given to the Indian media outlet ‘The Print’, he said, “Winning is winning but winning against Pakistan gave us a different kind of joy.”

The captain of the Afghanistan cricket team further said that ‘Before the World Cup, we played many matches against Pakistan and they always took away the victory from us in the last moments and this has been happening for about eight, nine years. We had a lot of fun defeating them now.

It should be remembered that the Afghanistan team has played eight matches in the World Cup, out of which they have defeated Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands in four matches. They have eight points on the points table but their semi-final berth looks tough as they have to beat South Africa by 438 runs in their last league match.

Regarding Afghanistan’s victory over England, Hashmatullah Shahidi said, “I am telling you honestly that when we beat England, I cried because of happiness.”

In response to a question about the support received by the Afghanistan cricket team in India, the Afghan captain said that we get a lot of support in this country. India is like a second home for us. When we come here, we feel like we are in Afghanistan.

Referring to an incident that happened during his stay in India, he said, “Just a few days ago, I called for a taxi in Pune and when the driver came to know that I am from Afghanistan, he did not take money from me.”
