Pakistan has confirmed its playing XI for the opening Test of the ICC World Test Championship series against Australia in Perth, with two players set to make their Test debuts.
Two New Faces in the Line-Up
Right-arm pacer Aamer Jamal and right-arm fast bowler Khurram Shahzad will make their first Test appearances for the Green Shirts. Jamal made his international debut in a T20I against England last year, while Shahzad has been showcasing consistent performances in Pakistan’s domestic cricket.
Their inclusion reflects a bold strategy from newly appointed captain Shan Masood, who is leading the Test side for the first time. The move shows his willingness to give young talent a platform to shine on the biggest stage.
Experience Balances Youth
Alongside the debutants, Pakistan has retained several experienced players from the squad that toured Sri Lanka earlier this year. Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, and Sarfaraz Ahmed remain key figures in the batting order.
All-rounder Faheem Ashraf, who has been out of the Test side for over a year due to injury, makes his return. Salman Ali Agha will handle spin duties in the absence of injured leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed.
A Tough Test Ahead
The Perth match marks the first of a three-Test series. Australia, the reigning World Test Champions, boast a dominant home record and will pose a significant challenge.
However, Pakistan is aiming to break past patterns with a refreshed approach and a blend of youth and experience. The changes reflect a strategic shift designed to improve performances in challenging overseas conditions.
