Bangkok (International Desk) – The Overseas Pakistanis Thai Association (OPA-TH) recently hosted a vibrant “Mahfil-e-Urdu Mushaira” (Urdu Poetry Event) at the Lahore Restaurant’s Silom Branch in Bangkok, Thailand. The event was presided over by OPA-TH President Abdul Ghaffar Warsi and featured renowned poets Tariq Hashmi and Nadir Durrani from the United States, alongside other distinguished poets.
In his address, Abdul Ghaffar Warsi highlighted the cultural significance of Lahore, a city famous for its rich heritage in Pakistan. He praised Malik Shaheen Yousuf Awan, the CEO of Lahore Restaurant, for establishing the restaurant in Bangkok and naming it after Lahore. “It is a proud moment that Lahore’s name continues to resonate internationally through this restaurant,” he remarked, congratulating Malik Shaheen for his efforts to promote Pakistan’s name abroad.
Warsi also commended the poets for their remarkable performances, saying, “The participants presented exceptional poems, ghazals, and poetry, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our national language, Urdu, is dear to us, and I am deeply grateful to the poets for keeping it alive here in Thailand.”
The event concluded on a celebratory note with a vote of thanks extended to the poets and participants. As a gesture of hospitality, Malik Shaheen Yousuf Awan hosted a dinner for all attendees, further enhancing the sense of community and cultural pride.
The “Mahfil-e-Urdu Mushaira” was a resounding success, serving as a testament to the enduring love for Urdu and Pakistani culture among the diaspora in Thailand.
