Mohammad Rizwan has conveyed his astonishment over the unexpected retirement of Imad Wasim from international cricket. Taking to the social media platform ‘X,’ Rizwan expressed his belief that Imad still possesses the potential to make significant contributions to Pakistan’s international cricket for several more years.
“Surprised to hear about your retirement, @simadwasim, my brother. I firmly believe you still have many years left to excel in international cricket for Pakistan. Wishing you the best in every facet of life. Keep shining bright,” wrote Rizwan.
Imad Wasim, aged 34, announced his retirement from international cricket on Friday, concluding a career that spanned eight years. Making his international debut in May 2015 against Zimbabwe, Imad represented Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is, taking 109 wickets and scoring 1,472 runs.
A key member of the Pakistan team, Imad Wasim played a crucial role in the 2017 Champions Trophy-winning squad. He also participated in the 2016 T20 World Cup, 2019 World Cup, and the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Expressing gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their support over the years, Imad said, “It’s an exciting time for Pakistan cricket going forward with new coaches and leadership incoming. I wish all involved every success and look forward to watching the team excel.”
He added, “I would like to thank Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. I now look forward to focusing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage.”
