By TN Media News | Karachi, Pakistan:
The Young Doctors Association (YDA) of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) held a black ribbon protest on claims of unfair recruitment and promotion practices. The demonstration, supported by doctors from various departments, aimed to show solidarity with senior faculty members allegedly denied rightful promotions.
Allegations of Biased Practices:
According to YDA, recruitment and promotion decisions at JPMC are being influenced by Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon, Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU). The association accused him of overseeing irregular processes that have sidelined experienced and qualified faculty.
These actions, they claim, have not only harmed professional morale but also undermined the institution’s credibility and affected the quality of education and patient care.
Call for Transparency and Fairness:
Leading the protest, Dr. Muhammad Ali and Dr. Shehryar Shaikh, along with other senior members, demanded a transparent and merit-based system. They emphasized the need for impartial evaluations in faculty appointments and promotions.
Biased decisions are not just unjust—they compromise patient care and institutional integrity, said Dr. Ali.
Appeal for Government Intervention:
The YDA has requested immediate action from top authorities, including PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, and the Chief Secretary and Health Secretary of Sindh. The association described the situation as a grave injustice requiring urgent redress.
Broad Support from Medical Community:
The protest received support from other YDA chapters, the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan, and various health organizations. Their participation signaled widespread concern about the state of governance in public medical institutions.
Continued Push for Reform:
YDA leaders announced plans to coordinate with consultants and faculty to outline next steps. The association reaffirmed its dedication to defending doctors’ rights, upholding professional standards, and pursuing systemic reforms.
We will not remain silent,” said Dr. Ali. “This is about justice for doctors and for the patients they serve.
The YDA remains firm in its mission to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability at JPMC and across Pakistan’s healthcare sector.
