By Aiman Arman: After the burning of the Holy Quran a few days ago it has caused uproar in the Muslim ummah. When a man who’s known to be a Christian from Iraq claimed by the media in Sweden. Burned the Quran outside of a Holy Mosque in Stockholm during the very important and religious day to Muslims Eid-ul-Adah.
This incident has sparked debate all over the world about ‘freedom of speech’ and how hypocritical it is where different people hold different opinions on the said incident.
Many Muslim countries have been protesting Aswell as many cities in Pakistan. The foreign minster of Pakistan Mister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva “We must see this clearly for what it is: incitement to religious hatred, discrimination and attempts to provoke violence,”
His sentiment, and view seems to be reflected by many other countries and their minister such as, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Indonesia, etc.
The many Muslims calling this an act of Islamophobia disguised as freedom of opinion. Turkey also shows anger towards Sweden for this heinous act and as a member of the NATO obstructed Sweden’s accession bid. The Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun in the Turkish government stated his opinion saying:
“We are sick and tired of enabling of Islamophobia and continued instances of hatred for our religion on the part of European authorities especially in Sweden.” “Those who seek to become our allies in NATO, cannot tolerate or enable destructive behaviors of Islamophobic and xenophobic terrorists,”.
