The PSL franchises have announced their player retentions for the upcoming PSL 9, with each team making use of the maximum eight retentions, except Multan Sultans, who retained seven players.
Reigning champions Lahore Qalandars have retained captain Shaheen Shah Afridi in the Platinum category, and Haris Rauf is named the team’s brand ambassador in the Diamond category. Sikandar Raza and Rashid Khan are retained in the Gold and Silver categories, respectively.
Multan Sultans have retained captain Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed in the Platinum category. Ihsanullah, the player of the tournament in HBL PSL 2023, is the team’s Brand Ambassador in the Silver category, and Faisal Akram is retained in Emerging.
Islamabad United has retained Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah in the Platinum category. Imad Wasim is named the team’s Mentor in the Diamond category, and Faheeem Ashraf is the Brand Ambassador in the Gold category. Rumman Raees is retained in Silver.
Karachi Kings have retained Shan Masood and Shoaib Malik in Gold. Shan Masood was traded for Faisal Akram. Shan is also named the Brand Ambassador, while Malik is the team Mentor. Mir Hamza is retained in Silver.
Quetta Gladiators have retained Rilee Rossouw and Wanindu Hasaranga in Platinum and Diamond, respectively. Mohammad Wasim Jnr and Abrar Ahmed are retained through successful trades in Diamond and Gold. Jason Roy is also retained in Diamond. Sarfaraz Ahmed is the team’s Brand Ambassador in the Gold category.
Peshawar Zalmi has retained Babar Azam and Rovman Powell in Platinum. Mohammad Haris is retained in Gold and named the Brand Ambassador.
Overall, the teams have strategically retained key players across different categories, aiming for a strong performance in the upcoming PSL season.
