The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mission convened with officials from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to deliberate on key objectives, including structural and policy reforms under the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Program funded by ADB. The discussions focused on enhancing tax administration efficiency and embracing digitalization to align with global trends.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the impending transformation of the FBR into a Digital Tax Administration, a move aimed at modernizing tax collection processes and improving transparency. This transformation underscores Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging technology for effective governance and economic development.

The contours of the Digital Tax Administration Project of the FBR, with the support of ADB, were thoroughly examined during the session. The project aims to streamline tax procedures, enhance compliance, and foster a conducive environment for business growth by leveraging digital platforms and innovative solutions.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of timely implementation, with Subprogram II reforms slated for completion by the end of 2024. These reforms are integral to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of tax administration, thereby contributing to Pakistan’s broader economic development goals.

The collaboration between ADB and FBR reflects a shared commitment to advancing sustainable development and strengthening governance frameworks in Pakistan. Through strategic partnerships and targeted interventions, both entities are working towards fostering an enabling environment for inclusive growth and prosperity.

As Pakistan continues on its path towards economic resilience and recovery, initiatives such as the Digital Tax Administration Project underscore the government’s determination to modernize and transform key sectors for long-term sustainability and competitiveness.
