Australia start as underdogs the ODI series against formidable Pakistan

Pakistan and Australia start the ODI series today after the historic win by the tourist in the Test Match Series to win 1-0 after 24 years since they last played in Pakistan.

Pakistan who were denied by Australia to qualify in the T20 World Cup a place in the semi-finals and this is now becoming a like a rivalry between the two teams.  They last time Australia visited Pakistan was back in 1998.

Both teams have been played in total 104 ODIs and of that Pakistan have won 32 whereas Australia 68 and furthermore matches in Pakistan have been 11 off which 4 won by Pakistan and 6 by Australia.  There have been 56 matches played in Australia out of which Pakistan won 17 and Australia 37.  Looking at the these figures, Australia so far have the upperhand over Pakistan and this is what the host needs to change by playing positive, aggressive cricket which they are good at doing over the last few years.

The body language of the Australian captain Aaron Finch has been very position and this was seen at the trophy curtain raiser too, although they have been hit with injuries and new faces will take the role, but he has been positive.

So how are we expecting the pitch for these ODI, will it be the similar to test, favoring the batsman and high scoring game by the teams batting first, will the toss be vital and what are data say about teams batting first.  Well, at the Gaddafi Stadium in ODIs it shows that team batting first have won 32 time and bowling first have been 29 so there is no real comparison on the toss.  Both teams have pace bowlers and they will take the advantage of the reverse swing, which we saw in the test matches by the Australia were more effective than the Pakistani bowlers.

Australia (possible): 1 Aaron Finch (capt), 2 Ben McDermott, 3 Marnus Labuschagne, 4 Travis Head, 5 Marcus Stoinis, 6 Cameron Green, 7 Alex Carey (wk), 8 Sean Abbott, 9 Ben Dwarshuis, 10 Adam Zampa, 11 Nathan Ellis

Pakistan (possible): 1 Imam-ul-Haq, 2 Fakhar Zaman, 3 Babar Azam (capt), 4 Abdullah Shafique 5 Mohammad Rizwan (wk), 6 Mohammad Haris, 7 Faheem Ashraf,  8 Asif Afridi, 9 Hasan Ali, 10 Shaheen Shah Afridi, 11 Haris Rauf

Pakistan are likely to be without leg spinner Shadab Khan for the two ODIs due to groin injury he picked up during the PSL and they have included Asif Afridi and Mohammed Haris due to strong performance in PSL are likely to be part of the squad.

The mindset of the Test Match and ODI is totally different and Pakistan players who were playing test match, have had the time to change the mode with good practice sessions over the last few days before they take the field today.
