Afghanistan clinched an eight-wicket win over Pakistan in the ICC World Cup match held in Chennai on Monday. However, despite the setback, Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam showcased true sportsmanship.
After the game, Azam followed through on an old promise, presenting Afghan batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz with a cricket bat. This touching gesture was caught on camera, rapidly making rounds on social media. “I promised him a bat a long time ago,” Azam was overheard saying in the viral video.
Gurbaz shone on the field, scoring an impressive 65 runs from 53 balls, playing a pivotal role in Afghanistan’s triumph over Pakistan.
Now on the brink of elimination, having secured only two victories in five games, Pakistan is set to face off against South Africa in Chennai this coming Friday.
