Foreign Minister’s Visit to Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt to attend CoP-27 7-9 November 2022

by: TN Media News Pakistan: The Foreign Minister visited Sharm El-Sheikh on 7-9 November 2022 to attend the 27th Session of the Conference of Parties (CoP-27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC).
During his visit, the Foreign Minister participated in several high-level events together with the Prime Minister, including the “Leader’s Summit”, High-Level Round Table on “Early Warnings for All Executive Action Plan Launch”, “The Middle East Green Initiative Summit”, launched by Saudi Arabia, and the joint press “stakeout” with the UN Secretary-General at the Pakistan Pavilion.
The CoP-27 endorsed Pakistan’s proposal, under the leadership of the Foreign Minister as Chair of the G77 and China, to place “loss and damage” finance on the agenda of CoP-27. This proposal aims the creation of a financing mechanism to address climate-induced disasters in developing countries.
Pakistan and other developing countries have asserted that countries, like Pakistan, which confront climate-induced disasters should be able to quickly access resources to recover from and mitigate the impacts of climate-induced disasters through a “loss and damage” financing facility.
At CoP-27, the Foreign Minister also held bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of France, the United Kingdom, Egypt and the United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Senator John Kerry.
During these bilateral engagements, the Foreign Minister thanked the Ministers for their support in post-flood relief efforts in Pakistan and encouraged them to support Pakistan’s rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts and participate in the pledging conference being organized in early January next year to mobilize global support for these efforts.
