The first day of the second Test match between Bangladesh and New Zealand was nothing short of amazing. Although there was a brilliant display of bowling from both sides, one incident stirred controversy.
Bangladesh’s veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim was given out due to obstruction of the field, becoming the first Bangladesh batsman to be dismissed in this manner.
The incident occurred in the 41st over when Rahim changed the ball’s direction with his hand, anticipating that the ball would hit the stumps after defending Kylie Jamieson’s delivery.
The Kiwis appealed instantly, and the decision went to the TV umpire after on-field umpires discussed it. The umpire ruled against Bangladesh, and Rahim had to walk with an individual score of 35.
Discussing the scorecard at the end of day one, Bangladesh were bowled out for 172. In response, New Zealand stands at 55/5, trailing by 117 runs.
It is noteworthy that Bangladesh leads the Test series 1-0.
