Babar Azam reclaims number one spot in ODI format

by: Atika Mehboob TN Sport Pakistan:
Babar Azam has reclaimed the number one position in ODIs after nearly a month of being dethroned, as per the latest ICC rankings released today. The former Pakistan skipper overtook India’s Shubman Gill, who lost his top spot due to a disappointing World Cup campaign and is not part of the Indian squad currently playing against South Africa.

With a career-best 824 points, the right-handed batter now leads the ODI rankings, closely followed by Shubman Gill with 810 points. Notably, Babar Azam stands out as the only batter to feature in the top 5 ICC rankings across all three formats.

However, there has been a slip in Babar Azam’s Test rankings, where he now occupies the fifth position. This decline is attributed to his recent performances in the longest format, particularly in 2023, where he could not manage to score even a single fifty.

It’s worth mentioning that Pakistan is yet to play a Test match before the end of this year. However, the FTP of the men in green has no ODI matches until late in the next year.
