Babar’s Test prowess under scrutiny after Perth woes.

by: TN Media News Pakistan:

Former Pakistani cricketer Mudassar Nazar has cast doubt on Babar Azam’s Test match credentials, despite acknowledging his brilliance in the longer format. While praising Babar’s overall batting prowess, Nazar pinpointed a concerning tendency: “chasing the ball” in Tests.

This concern arose after Babar’s disappointing outings in the Perth Test against Australia. He managed only 21 and 14 runs across both innings, falling victim to deliveries Nazar deemed unplayable on a capricious pitch. However, Nazar’s critique goes beyond a single bad performance. He sees a pattern of Babar being overly proactive in Tests, compared to his composed approach in ODIs and T20s.

The upcoming Boxing Day Test in Melbourne presents a crucial opportunity for Babar to silence his critics. Pakistan needs its captain to lead from the front against a formidable Australian side. Whether Babar can adapt his game and overcome his alleged “chasing the ball” habit remains to be seen. The MCG will be the stage for a defining chapter in Babar’s Test career.
