A Celebration of Unity and Diplomacy
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia September 3, 2025: The Embassy of Cameroon in Riyadh hosted the 53rd National Day celebration, a landmark event that highlighted unity and stronger ties with Saudi Arabia.
The celebration took place at the Cultural Palace in Diriyah. It was postponed from the usual May 20 date due to scheduling issues. This year’s theme, “Army and Nation united for a Cameroon turned towards peace and prosperity,” carried special meaning as the country prepares for its presidential election on October 12, 2025.
Honoring National Unity
Cameroon’s National Day marks the 1972 reunification of its English- and French-speaking regions. This historic moment created the United Republic of Cameroon and laid the foundation for lasting national harmony.
The Riyadh gathering reminded citizens of these values. It emphasized the importance of peace, unity, and shared identity among Cameroonians worldwide.
Strengthening Cameroon-Saudi Arabia Relations
His Excellency Mr. Iya Tidjani, Ambassador of Cameroon to Saudi Arabia, welcomed dignitaries and guests. He thanked His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Bin Ayyaf, Mayor of Riyadh, for attending the event.
“The excellent historical relations between our two countries are now based on a solid legal foundation,” the Ambassador said. He referred to the General Cooperation Agreement signed by both governments.
He also highlighted opportunities for partnership in trade, mining, agriculture, tourism, and sports. Recent milestones included the 2017 bilateral air agreement and Cameroon’s entry into the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition on May 1, 2025.
Saudi Arabia’s Role in Cameroon’s Development
The Ambassador praised Saudi Arabia for its support in Cameroon. He noted the Kingdom’s humanitarian efforts, such as building mosques and health facilities. These contributions strengthen bilateral friendship and cooperation.
Looking ahead, he encouraged Saudi businesses to invest in Cameroon. He described the country as “Africa in miniature,” thanks to its rich diversity, resources, and strategic location.
Support for Cameroonians in Saudi Arabia
The Ambassador also addressed Cameroonian citizens living in the Kingdom. He assured them that the Embassy and Consulate General will help them vote in the upcoming elections. Support from Saudi authorities will ensure the process runs smoothly.
A Milestone for Bilateral Ties
The celebration in Riyadh was more than a cultural gathering. It reaffirmed Cameroon’s national unity while deepening ties with Saudi Arabia. The event showcased a partnership built on diplomacy, cooperation, and mutual respect.
