LAHORE: (Reporter) – On January 24, 2025, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) hosted a highly engaging training session led by Dr. Maria Francesca Stainno, Director of the Center on China Studies at the International Relations Institute of the National University of La Plata (IRI-UNLP) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The session was part of a joint fellowship program aimed at promoting understanding of global governance and the role of democratization in international relations.
Dr. Stainno, who also serves as the Director of the Latin American Research Academy on a Community with a Shared Future and Belt and Road Initiative (LARA-CSF-BRI) of UNLP and Communication University of China, Beijing, shared her expert insights on the concept of a “Community with a Shared Future for Mankind.” This concept, which advocates for a humanistic and symbiotic approach to global democratization, is closely associated with China’s vision for reshaping international relations.
The session was welcomed by Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director of the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF), Islamabad. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Stainno for sharing her valuable perspectives on this evolving global framework.
In her presentation, Dr. Stainno emphasized the importance of building a “new global governance solution” that integrates political, economic, cultural, and ecological dimensions. She explained that this framework is not merely about asserting rights but also involves shared responsibilities among nations to foster global stability and development. This vision aligns closely with China’s strategic objectives, particularly in relation to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which seeks to establish a more inclusive and interconnected global community.
Dr. Stainno also delved into the significance of Chinese Humanism and its implications for modern international relations. She noted the emerging need for a new framework that bridges the divide between Western democracies and the Global South, suggesting that both regions could benefit from mutual cooperation and understanding. She argued that such a relationship would be crucial in addressing the complex global challenges posed by structural economic and social crises.
Highlighting the importance of environmental sustainability, Dr. Stainno emphasized the need for a holistic approach to development—one that connects humanity’s progress to the health of the planet. She stressed that recognizing this interconnectedness is essential for ensuring the long-term success of international collaboration.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where students actively engaged with Dr. Stainno. They shared their perspectives and posed insightful questions, demonstrating keen interest in the topics discussed.
The fellowship program currently involves about 30 Master’s and Bachelor’s level students at LCWU, who are benefiting from this unique opportunity to explore global governance, democratization, and international relations through a humanistic lens. This event marked an important step in fostering greater understanding and collaboration among future leaders from various regions of the world.
