by: TN Media News Rawalpindi, September 5, 2024 – Pakistan has fallen to its lowest Test cricket ranking in nearly 60 years following a shocking 2-0 series defeat to Bangladesh, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Wednesday.
Bangladesh secured a six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second Test in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, marking their first-ever series win against the home team. The defeat has pushed Pakistan down two places in the ICC Test rankings, from sixth to eighth, their lowest position since 1965.
The latest rankings, led by Australia, India, and England, place Bangladesh ninth.
In the aftermath of the series loss, no Pakistani bowlers are ranked in the top 10, as fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi slipped to 11th from his previous ninth position. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan remains the only Pakistani in the top 10 batting rankings, while former captain Babar Azam fell three places to 12th after scoring just 64 runs in the two Tests.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood’s leadership came under scrutiny, particularly after a dropped catch on the third day of the Rawalpindi Test, contributing to a disappointing series performance for the team.
