Karachi: The AKG Premier League Season 2 Cricket Tournament continued to showcase thrilling performances as two more matches were decided on Thursday. Organized by the Aga Khan Gymkhana, the tournament has seen fierce competition, with both Storm Warriors and Aziz Damani securing second consecutive victories.
In the 5th match of the tournament, Storm Warriors defeated United Friends by 7 wickets. United Friends batted first, scoring 127 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The team’s captain, Murtaza Majid, top-scored with 41 runs off 39 balls, including 2 fours. Syed Ahsan Ullah contributed 22 runs, while Mohammad Ali added 20 runs to the score.
For Storm Warriors, Mohammad Shoaib, Rahim Ali, and Shayan Ali each claimed 2 wickets. In response, Storm Warriors chased down the target of 128 runs in just 18.4 overs, losing 3 wickets. Naseeb Noor Ali was the star of the match, playing an impressive knock of 60 not out from 55 balls, which included 6 fours. Amir Hayat also played a solid innings, contributing 44 runs off 46 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Syed Ahsan Ullah took 2 wickets in the losing effort.
In the 6th match, Aziz Damani triumphed over Super King’s by 5 wickets. Batting first, Super King’s were dismissed for 128 runs in 19.3 overs. Captain Saleem Abdul Rahim top-scored with 36 runs off 41 balls, which included 3 fours. Ali Zain Ijaz made 23 runs with 3 fours, while Khurram Shezad contributed 17 runs with one four and one six.
The Player of the Match, Skipper Mir Afzal Baig, delivered a stellar performance with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 21 runs with his off-spin bowling. Adil Rehmat, Hussain Abdul Mohammed, and Nabeel Ahmed each claimed one wicket.
In response, Aziz Damani chased down the target, reaching 134 runs in 17.5 overs. Naveed Ali led the charge with 46 runs off 35 balls, which included 7 boundaries. Irfan Rehmat added 37 runs off 38 balls, with 3 fours and a six, while Irfan Ali made 16 runs and Adil Rehman contributed 12 off 6 balls, including one four and one six.
At the end of the match, the Chief Guest, Nizar Khan, Owner of I-Bax, presented the Player of the Match award to Naseeb Noor Ali for his brilliant innings of 60* and 2 excellent catches. Additionally, AKG Member Munir Samani awarded the Player of the Match honors to Skipper Mir Afzal Baig for his superb bowling performance, which included 4 wickets for just 12 runs.
