Snapchat Teams Up with UNHCR to Launch AR Lens for Refugee Awareness.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Snapchat has partnered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to launch an Augmented Reality (AR) lens aimed at raising awareness about the struggles of refugees. The initiative, part of the “AR for Good” program during Ramadan, was unveiled at an event in Riyadh.

The lens uses immersive technology to highlight the challenges faced by displaced individuals, offering an interactive experience that fosters empathy and understanding. The event was attended by key figures from the development and philanthropic sectors, with speeches from Jawaher Abdulhamid of Snap Inc. and Taleb Salhab of UNHCR MENA.

With 83% of Snapchat users in Saudi Arabia engaging with AR experiences weekly, this collaboration leverages digital technology to create impactful awareness. Abdulla Alhammadi, General Manager of Snap Inc. in Saudi Arabia, emphasized the role of technology in promoting global humanitarian efforts, while Salhab highlighted the power of AR to motivate action and support for refugees worldwide.

This unique partnership marks a significant step in using modern storytelling tools to deepen engagement and inspire meaningful support for those forced to flee their homes.
