Mazda Teams Up with CATL to Accelerate Electric Vehicle Development.

by: TN Media News: Mazda is charging ahead in the electric vehicle (EV) race by partnering with CATL, the world’s largest EV battery manufacturer, to develop new electric models. The collaboration will operate through Mazda’s joint venture with Chinese automaker Changan.

The alliance has already produced two EVs: the upcoming 2025 Mazda 6e, set to launch in Europe, and the 2026 Mazda EZ-60 SUV, recently unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show. Both models share a platform with Changan’s Deepal S07, which has already entered the Australian market.

Although Mazda currently offers no electric vehicles in Australia, its partnership with Changan and CATL along with the right-hand drive availability of the Mazda 6e in the UK suggests a possible future release in other similar markets.

The new EVs will be built on CATL’s advanced Integrated Intelligent Chassis, also known as the Skateboard Chassis. CATL claims it to be the world’s safest, capable of surviving a 120 km/h frontal crash while absorbing 85% of the impact energy 25% more than standard platforms. The chassis integrates battery cells directly into the structure, enhancing safety but potentially complicating future repairs or battery replacements.

This partnership marks a major step forward for Mazda in its shift toward electrification, leveraging CATL’s cutting-edge battery technology to remain competitive in the evolving automotive landscape.
