by: TN Media News: Chinese EV maker Leapmotor has unveiled a significantly upgraded version of its C10 electric and plug-in hybrid SUV for 2026, just a year after its initial launch. The refreshed model debuts with enhanced power, longer range, and faster charging, starting from an affordable $26,500 in China, sparking speculation about a potential price cut in Australia to rival budget-friendly EVs like the BYD Sealion 6, Geely EX5, and Tesla Model Y.
The biggest upgrade is the shift to an 800V electrical architecture in the full-electric version, up from 400V. This enables the new 220kW motor to slash the 0-100km/h time from 7.3 to 5.9 seconds. A larger 74.9kWh battery now delivers up to 605km range (CLTC) and supports ultra-fast charging from 30 to 80% in just 16 minutes.
Meanwhile, the range-extender plug-in hybrid (REEV) version remains unchanged, retaining its 158kW motor, 28.4kWh battery, and 1.5-litre petrol generator.
Other new features include:Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P multimedia processor, 50W wireless phone charging, Powered door handles, A new purple paint option
However, the C10 still lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as Leapmotor’s platform is not compatible. The company is developing an alternative screen-mirroring solution expected via an over-the-air update in late 2025.
Stellantis, Leapmotor’s distribution partner in Australia, has yet to confirm local specs or pricing, but the C10โs updated features and competitive pricing suggest it could soon become a more attractive contender in the affordable EV SUV segment.ย
